The Gorgeous Colours - 'It's OK To Be Normal'

Have been meaning to post about this for a while - the song was released back in May, but this video is relatively new. The Gorgeous Colours occupy a unique position on the domestic scene - they make pop music with hooks aplenty, but it doesn't really fit in with the lo-fi, charmingly ramshackle efforts of the Popical Island gang. The Gorgeous Colours are more reminiscent of bands like Grizzly Bear or Super Furry Animals, making lush, deceptive, intricately melodic tunes. This may well be their finest so far.

It's Ok To Be Normal by The Gorgeous Colours

The band will be kicking off Friday's Body & Soul Main Stage action at Electric Picnic, and I intend to catch their set.

Another thing I meant to post about before - their full-length self-titled album is available as a free download from their Bandcamp, where you
can also find last year's The Creatures Down Below EP.

The Gorgeous Colours - 'The Creatures Down Below'

Take from their upcoming EP of the same name, 'The Creatures Down Below' is a deceptive little number with all manner of off-kilter harmonies, hooks and backing vocals that play off each other: it's intricate, absorbing stuff and never stays in one place for too long.

01 The Creatures Down Below by The Gorgeous Colours

With the EP being self-funded, the Dublin-based band have set up a page where fans can pre-order it, with a number of additional incentives for those who are feeling particuarly generous (t-shirt offers, tickets to a secret gig, high-quality prints of TGC artwork, even a chance to take on the band in a 5-a-side game). Here's the 'EP Pledge' page: http://www.thegorgeouscolours.com/

It's been met with a great reaction so far, with one dedicated fan even set to fly all the way from Barcelona to appear onstage with the band at Whelan's (the EP launch, which will take place on 14th October). A band that inspires that kind of fandom is worth checking out!

The Gorgeous Colours are also taking part in this year's Hard Working Class Heroes festival, as well as supporting O Emperor on a couple of upcoming dates

30 Sep 2010 Spirit Store (opening for The Cast of Cheers) Dundalk, Louth,
2 Oct 2010 The Forum (opening for O Emperor) Waterford, Waterford,
3 Oct 2010 Spirit Store (opening for O Emperor) Dundalk, Louth,
