Yo La Tengo - 'Gentle Hour'

Last year's Dark Was The Night charity compilation was full of great songs, the greatest of all being this contribution from the ever-excellent Yo La Tengo. A cover of a song originally written by Peter Gutteridge and performed by NZ band Gentle Hour, its soothing, meditative ambience is infused with an inescapable sense of sadness; "all things that cause you joy cause pain.."

Still absolutely slays me very time I listen to it.
